WBC Coronavirus (Covid-19) response

March 18, 2020

In an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, city of Abilene officials have reduced the size of public gatherings from 250 to 50 people. Wylie Baptist Church will do all that we can to help #flattenthecurve. Out of a great love for our church family and community, and respect for local governing authorities, all campus activities have been indefinitely suspended, effective immediately.

This is a new day and new opportunities abound. Facebook live-stream will continue each Sunday morning at 10:30am and additional opportunities for online worship, bible study, devotions, and giving will be communicated soon. We are committed to walking alongside you as we face uncertain days together, even though we are temporarily apart. Church family, WE are the church - let’s go BE the church!

Both the safety and spiritual well-being of our church family and community are of great importance to us. We are carefully monitoring the rapidly developing situation surrounding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). In response, we desire to make wise decisions that are prayer-saturated and Spirit-led.

At this time, we have prayerfully chosen to continue Sunday morning activities, while being careful to adhere to the current 250 person limit on public gatherings in Abilene. Wednesday evening activities will also continue, with the exception of the evening meal which has been suspended.

In order to provide a sanitary and safe environment for people to gather, our facilities are regularly disinfected by a local company. The “Germ Killer” disinfects and then treats our spaces to kill any new germs introduced over a 90-day period. Light switches, door knobs, and surfaces are regularly wiped down and toys are disinfected. In addition, the following precautions have been put into place to minimize the spread of germs:

  • Hand sanitizer has been placed throughout the building.

  • Bulletins and handouts are placed on tables to be picked up as needed.

  • Offering plates will not be utilized. Offering may be placed in baskets when leaving the sanctuary or made online at wyliebaptist.org/give.

  • We encourage smiles, elbow bumps, or waves, rather than hugs or high-fives.

  • Serving of food/snacks, including Wednesday night meals and the Coffee Corner, have been discontinued.

You can help in the following ways:

  • Wash your hands often.

  • Stay home if you or someone in your family is sick.

  • Consider a “self-quarantine” if you have traveled outside of the Abilene area.

  • Stay home if you are uncomfortable gathering at this time. Your faith is not inferior to those making different choices.

  • If you are unable to gather on Sunday, join us via live stream on our facebook page.

  • Minister to those in need within our congregation and community.

  • Pray - Coronavirus Prayer Guide for Texas Baptist Churches

Due to the uncertain nature of this situation, we are actively researching other alternatives to services and programs in the event we are unable to gather at a future date. We will continue to monitor this situation and seek advice and recommendations from officials and notify you of any changes.
