Senior Adult Ministry

Living Lives of Godly Purpose and Joy

"God's Word is not given to us as a puzzle to be solved but as a profound Truth to be integrated into our lives and daily experience." - Ray Stedman. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The Mission of WBC Senior Adult Ministry is to LOVE AND ENCOURAGE older adults to live lives of integrity, purpose, and joy that reflect Jesus Christ and testify to the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit during the unique challenges and opportunities of the later seasons of one’s life.  (Gal 5:22-25; Phil 1:6, 9-11; 4:5-9; Heb 12:1-3; Jas 1:2-4).

We accomplish this mission through following the headship of Christ in all that we do, and by seeking God and supporting/encouraging one another through Bible Study, Fellowship, and Prayer.  (Col 3:12-17; Heb 10:22-25).

Bible Study

We offer several Bible Studies on Sunday Morning beginning at 9am for both men and women as well as other studies that meet during the week.  Check out our Welcome Center for more information or call the church office at (325)692-3206.

Fellowship // Prayer

Listed below are the opportunities for fun, friendship, festivity, outreach, “get-togethers” and prayer for older adults.

  • CAKE Ministry

CAKE ministry is a visitation program sponsored the second Tuesday of each month from 3 to 4pm by different Senior Bible Studies.  Participants will purchase or bake 2 large cakes and take them over to the Mesa Springs Care Facility to celebrate the residents’ birthdays that fall on that  month and visit with them.

  • Senior Adult Fellowship at Big Country Assembly

Once a season, older adults from Wylie ride together out to the Big Country Baptist Assembly in Leuders, Texas for a morning of encouragement, music, testimony, fellowship and food and to find out about associational activities for older adults across the community.

  • Visitation Team

This is a great ministry for couples.  Teams of two or individuals work with their own schedule and in coordination with the Senior Adult Pastor in hospital and care facility visitation, as well as those unable to leave their homes and offer encouragement, fellowship, help, and prayer.

  • Off-Campus Sunday Morning Bible Studies

In 2012 Wylie started its first off-campus Sunday Morning Bible Study that met during the regular Sunday School hour.  We now offer three studies off-campus every Sunday morning at the following care facilities:

-Lyndale Estates (meets at 9am in the Common room at 6565 Central Park Blvd.),

-Mesa Springs (meets at 9:30am in the Skilled Nursing Conference room at 7171 Buffalo Gap Rd.)

-Wesley Court (meets at 9:45am in the Second floor Conference Room at 2617 Antilley Rd.).

  • Wednesday Night and Prayer Meeting

Many of our older adults attend the church-wide Wednesday night meal and Prayer meeting where we study God’s Word and pray for each other, our community, our state, our nation, and the world with a special small group dedicated to praying for those who don’t know Jesus to come to know Him.

Other Ministries...

Older adults are just that, adults and they have an active role to play in the overall ministry of the church. Therefore, many of our ministries are not defined or limited by one’s age. There is no limit to the involvement of our older adults in the other activities of our church and their fellowships and ministries. It is the desire of the Senior Adult department that our older adults be full participants in ministry as well as being ministered to, therefore we encourage active participation of older adults across all the ministries and opportunities offered by Wylie and to work alongside, testify, and encourage the younger generations that are following after them for the good of the Kingdom, the testimony of God’s Word at work in us, and because we know that God is never “finished” with us or our growth on this side of heaven.

It is in light of this understanding our Senior Adult Pastor, Darrin Ray, is committed to loving and helping older adults continue in pursuing the calling God has placed on their lives, discovering and using their spiritual gifts, serving God with gladness and joy, and realizing that life doesn’t end at 75, 95 or 105. It’s just different… and God can surprise us with how well He can use that different to build His Kingdom, bring glory to Himself, fill us with His peace and joy, and make a difference in someone else’s life!
